What is Working Equitation and Where does HAPEE fit in!?

What is Working Equitation?

Working Equitation (WE) is an exciting and versatile equestrian sport that showcases the partnership between horse and rider through a series of phases: Dressage, Ease of Handling (obstacles), Speed (obstacles against the clock), and, at some competitions, a Cattle Test. Originating from the traditional skills used by working riders across Europe, WE combines precision, agility, and horsemanship in a fun and inclusive environment.

How HAPEE Fits into the UK WE Scene

Horse and Pony Equitation Events (HAPEE) offers a welcoming and accessible pathway into Working Equitation, providing unaffiliated competitions for riders of all levels. Our events focus on encouraging riders to develop their skills in a friendly, supportive atmosphere while maintaining the core values of the sport. Whether you're a newcomer or an experienced competitor, HAPEE provides a fantastic opportunity to enjoy Working Equitation in a fun and professional setting. No Membership is required. We aim to promote the sport of Working Equitation and make it accessible to all.

Who runs it?

HAPEE is run by Sarah Vousden of A Cob and a Connie and Suzanne Dipple of SD Equestrian Coach, both experienced Working Equitation competitors and trainers. With a passion for making the sport accessible and enjoyable, they bring their knowledge and dedication to creating welcoming, well-organized competitions for all riders

About your Organisers:

Sarah's journey in the equestrian world is truly inspiring. Transitioning from a corporate agriculture career to pursue her lifelong passion for horses demonstrates her courage and commitment to living authentically.

Whilst achieving considerable personal success, she has also become a beacon of inspiration for others. Her achievements in dressage and working equitation showcases her dedication and skill. Taking her 2 native type horses to PSG / Inter 1 at dressage and becoming Reserve National champion at Working Equitation in her first season, a sport known for the Iberian rather than the native, show her willingness to challenge conventional norms within the equestrian world.

Suzanne was selected to be on the 2023 GB Working Equitation Development Squad and so was immersed in the sport from that moment on. In her first year of competing she mainly spent the year trying to learn everything there is to know about the sport whilst out competing. In her second season of Working Equitation, 2024, she gained the National Novice Champion title, the National Inter A Champion title, and completed her first Advanced (highest WE UK level) . She also qualified and competed at her first International competition at SICAB in Seville, Spain.

Just some of your lovely reviews:

Went to our first ridden show at Beechwood working equitation. On the one hand these shows attract a high level of competitors so it’s no walk in the park, Hal’s been beaten at these shows. But at the other end of the scale when Peppi had a minor melt down and refused to go through the first obstacle instead of doing the walk of shame and having to go home he was allowed help and boy did his confidence improve from it. . Mega thanks to Suzanne Dipple Working Equitation and Dressage Training for running these shows and everyone there for being so supportive; Tessa Halsall

I am so proud of how Q was today, forward, responsive and not spooky. Thank you A Cob and a Connie for your help; Hannah Honour
